"The Star of Bethlehem"
Chapter Continues...
Angels & Sons of the Light
Most of us have read the earliest known account of the Star of Bethlehem found in the Gospel of Matthew, a text thought by scholars to date from around 80 C.E. This is one of two of the four synoptic gospels that report the events surrounding the birth of Jesus, yet the Gospel of Luke writes of a bright light or an angel “from on high” who delivers a message to the shepherds: “Behold I bring good tidings of great joy which will be to you and to all people.”
Luke never directly speaks of a star, but rather says: “And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host saying…” But we must remember that Luke did not become an apostle until after Jesus’ death, so he could only have known of these events from the accounts of the others.
The Gospel of Matthew, however, is clearer. This book relates that the Magi told Herod, “We have seen His star in the East and have come to worship Him… Then Herod, when he had secretly called the wise men, determined from them what time the star appeared…When they heard the king, they departed; and behold the star which they had seen in the East went before them, until it came and stood over where the young Child was…”
This account seems to indicate a bright light that appeared in the heavens, then moved as if directing the wise men where to go, finally parking itself over the manger as if to say, “X marks the spot.” While this certainly dovetails (at least as far as it goes) with the account we heard in Herod’s letter, it is certainly not the behavior of a “meteor,” a normal star, an asteroid, or even a supernova, all astronomical theories we shall take up in the next chapter.
More scientifically-minded researchers have long questioned what kind of star could have behaved this way, and this mystery has puzzled astronomers for centuries. “The difficulties of treating the Star of Bethlehem as a real astronomical object should not be underestimated…‘a star that rose in the East, appeared over Jerusalem, turned south to Bethlehem, and then came to rest over a house would have constituted a celestial phenomenon unparalleled in astronomical history: yet it received no notice in the records of the times.’”
In truth, the Star of Bethlehem has been one of the most mysterious events of the Bible for over two thousand years, especially since one would assume that any star the Wise Men had been following would have been in the sky for at least several weeks. From Persia or Ur, for example, it would have taken the Magi at least two or three months to reach Jerusalem on camel or horseback. The same could be said of Egypt, from where we know that at least one of the Magi originated. It is also possible that these astrologers had some independent foreknowledge of the star’s arrival, if the light they were following was a naturally-occurring event. Yet based on the accounts in the Bible, we must acknowledge that something about this star was unusual, for it did not act like an ordinary celestial object.
The Shepherds in the Field
I wish to share now a wonderful little-known version of this story that predates the one told in Matthew. This account was made immediately after the actual event, and comes directly from an investigation made by none other than the Sanhedrin Council themselves, who sent their own “investigators” out into the field to determine the amazing claims of this event, for as you will see, the brilliant appearance of the star was seen all over the entire town of Bethlehem. In this account, the reporter’s name is Jonathan, and his story is recorded just after the event. This is straight from the Vatican records.
They told me that while attending to their sheep, the night being cold and chilly, some of them had made fires to warm themselves, and some of them had laid down and were asleep; that they were awakened by those who were keeping watch with the question, “What does all this mean? Behold, how light it is!’ that when they were aroused it was light as day. But they knew it was not daylight, for it was only the third watch.
All at once the air seemed to be filled with human voices, saying, ‘Glory! Glory! Glory to the most High God! And ‘Happy art thou, Bethlehem, for God hath fulfilled his promise to the fathers; for in thy chambers is born the King that shall rule in righteousness.’
Their shoutings would rise up in the heavens, and then would sink down in mellow strains, and roll along at the foot of the mountains, and die away in the most soft and musical manner they had ever heard; then it would begin again high up in the heavens, in the very vaults of the sky, and descend in sweet and melodious strains, so that they could not refrain from shouting and weeping at the same time. The light would seem to burst forth high up in the heavens, and then descend in softer rays and light up the hills and valleys, making everything more visible than the light of the sun, though it was not so brilliant, but clearer, like the brightest moon.
I asked him how they felt, if they were not afraid; they said at first they were; but after awhile it seemed to calm their spirits, and so fill their hearts with love and tranquility that they felt more like giving thanks than anything else. They said it was around the whole city, and some of the people were almost scared to death.
Some said the world was on fire; some said the gods were coming down to destroy them; others said a star had fallen; until Melker the priest (from Bethlehem) came out shouting and clapping his hands, seeming to be frantic with joy. The people all came crowding around him and he told them that… the sign of His coming would be that light would shine from on high, and the angels would announce His coming, and their voices should be heard in the city, and the people should rejoice…
I went to see Melker who related to me much the same as the shepherds had reported. He told me that he had lived in India, and that his father had been a priest at Antioch; that he had studied in the sacred scrolls of God, all this life, and that he knew that the time had come, from signs given…
He said that the next day three strangers from a great distance called on him, and they went in search of this young child; and they found him and his mother in the mouth of the cave, where there was a shed projecting out for the sheltering of sheep; that his mother was married to a man named Joseph, and she related to the them the history of her child, saying that an angel had visited her, and told her that she should have a son, and she should call him Jesus, for he would redeem his people from their sins; and he should call her blessed forever more…
When I first read this account, I was astonished! It was so much more complete than the version we have been given in the New Testament, and it described a huge phenomena that took place over the whole village, not only the fields. It lit up the skies in such a way that even the people in the village came out of their homes amazed and frightened.
Such an account seems amazingly like a modern-day UFO encounter.
Celestial Signs in the Heavens
Certainly in the ancient world the appearance of celestial emissaries was not unknown. The “myths” of gods and goddesses permeate virtually every culture of the world, and Rome, Greece, Egypt, and Mesopotamia all agreed that such gods and goddesses existed. Even Jehovah’s command that “you shall have no other gods before me,” tells us that 1,400 years earlier Jehovah was concerned with competition. In our own Old Testament, Genesis speaks about these luminous “Shining Ones” who came down from the sky to mate with the daughters of men. “Now it came to pass, when men began to multiply on the face of the earth, and daughters were born to them that the sons of God saw the daughters of men, that they were beautiful; and they took wives for themselves of all whom they chose…”
Historically the children of such “gods” were thought to have been sent to Earth as great saviors or kings, and their births were often heralded by the appearance of comets or other celestial phenomena. In Celtic mythology all comets were said to have been an aspect of Lugh, the God of Light, and it was believed that they brought with them “sons of the living light” to incarnate in human form. As “sons of the Sun” they had important missions to fulfill. Many ancient half-divine heroes like Gilgamesh, Hercules, Achilles and King Arthur were said to be born under such celestial omens. While the idea of higher-dimensional extraterrestrials being involved with Jesus’ birth may seem a bit outrageous at first, let us just take a moment to consider the idea, then we shall proceed with more conventional theories.
Today, with the advent of video cameras and still photography, we have thousands of images of unidentified flying craft, some which behave in ways that are beyond our third-dimensional comprehension. These luminous craft have been known to project beams of light down into fields where people and animals are gathered, to move and then hover in one position, and to join together and then separate as one or many beacons of light. These craft appear and disappear as if from nowhere, and move both slowly and with incredible speeds; they even stop in mid-air and send lights onto the ground. In some cases, people have had strong telepathic contact with such craft, feeling that they were being communicated with by its occupants; in other cases people even experienced spiritual awakenings as a result of such an encounter.
While most of what we hear about on television is focused on the abductions by the strange “Grey” aliens, there are thousands of people around the world who have had uplifting contact with advanced human-looking beings that a thousand years ago we might have called “angels.”
The Gospel of Luke tells us: “And behold, an angel of the Lord stood before them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were greatly afraid.” Like the strangely luminous angel who appeared to Mary, foretelling the birth of Jesus, we are reminded that some otherworldly source had foreknowledge of Jesus’ coming. And there were also the “dreams” of angels counseling Joseph to flee Palestine for Egypt, and the appearance of two angels beside the tomb shortly after the crucifixion. So clearly, whoever or whatever was behind Jesus’ ministry was extra-terrestrial in origin (simply meaning beyond this world) in a physical, spiritual or multi-dimensional sense. The real question becomes - what was it?
If indeed Jesus was known to the spiritual hierarchies, as our evidence would indicate, then it would stand to reason that these luminous light beings had foreknowledge of his coming, his mission and his purpose. They had been sent to announce his arrival, and to reassure his followers after his death. And during the course of his life and training, they would have been monitoring his mission at the highest possible levels. While they could not complete his mission for him, they could help to pave the way. As most serious investigators in the UFO field today have come to realize, UFO’s are not simply a study of metallurgical samples and space engines. There is a far deeper multi-dimensional aspect to the entire off-world phenomena than many people realize, and this is precisely one of the reasons that the lid has been kept closed on the subject. To conceive of a world that includes these phenomena as real, would mean that we must broaden our world paradigm to include a multi-dimensional Universe.
It is all pretty simple. Despite the fact that we have been told that this reality is the only possibility for life, we are clearly surrounded by beings from many spiritual realms, the good, the bad and the ugly. This includes angels, ghosts, other visiting planetary life forms, and spiritual guides and masters who, on occasion, appear to give us a hand. We live in a multi-dimensional Universe, and those beings that we call “angels” have acted as overseeing guardians for our planet for thousands of years. They somehow seem to exist at higher frequencies than we do, and yet they are able to interact with our people. Today, physicists tell us that there may be as many as ten different dimensional realities, so is it not possible that these “Shining Ones” had an interest in Jesus, for they well knew who and what he was? Who better to send us an avatar in our time of need? Whether we call them angels, masters or extraterrestrial beings of light that exist at 4 th, 5 th or even 6 th dimensional levels, their motives are clearly aimed at world illumination and world peace.
The Essene Report of the Star of Bethlehem
In Dolores Cannon’s remarkable book Jesus and the Essenes, she shares the transcripts of hypnosis clients who have had past-life memories as Essenes. One of her clients was a Teacher of the Law, named Suddi, who lived in Qumran at the time of Jesus, and who witnessed the Star of Bethlehem from the hills of his monastery some fifty miles away. In this awe-inspiring account, he describes four separate stars, not just one, that come together over the fields to create the phenomenon known as the Star of Bethlehem. Each of these stars was leading one of the four Wise Men from four different countries to meet in Bethlehem. While Casper, Balthazar and Melchior are the three that are known in Christian lore today, the fourth Magi, we are told, did not arrive. Even though this transcript is a bit fragmented, it conveys the sense of wonder and magnificence of someone witnessing a higher-dimensional event. Just listen:
"It is the beginning of everything…to be able to see this for myself… It is all that I could ask…to know that the prophecy is being fulfilled… it is said that from four corners that stars will rise together and when they meet, it will be the time of His birth… It is like the heavens themselves have opened up and all the light is just shining down upon us… It is like the sun of day! It is so bright! They are… they have not met so that (the whole panorama of the four stars) it is larger than it will be…
And it is said that (when) it becomes one, in that moment, He will take his first breath… there is a beam… it is like a tail. It comes down with all of the light. It is like a focus that drops straight from the star. And it is said that in this light shall He be born. It is like most of the light is being focused, in that it is no longer scattered about, but in a precise point. It is about the brightness of a very large, full moon… He is in Bethlehem. It is of the prophecies… everyone is beside themselves… they are filled with joy and… the energy that is coursing around us. It is as if the whole world holds its breath in expectation… It is the beginning of the year… the New Year has just passed…"
This description of four separate “stars” or lights intersecting in the sky creates a cross in the heavens, a powerful initiatic symbol known throughout the entire ancient world long before Christianity was created; a hermetic symbol linked to the four Watchers of the Heavens, and the boundaries of time and space, as well as the symbol of the great Tree of Life. These four royal stars were well known in Jesus’ time, located in the four fixed signs of the Zodiac: Aldebaran in Taurus, the Watcher of the East; Regulus in Leo, the Watcher of the South; Antares in Scorpio, the Watcher of the West; and Fomalhaut in Aquarius, the Watcher of the North. While it is not logical to think that these particular stars moved from their orbits to come together at the zenith of the sky, still the symbology of these lights emerging from the four corners of the world and joining together, would have had enormous spiritual importance. We will end this chapter with more of Suddi’s eye-witness testimony:
"There are many who try to explain it in many different manners. They tried to say that it was a warning of the gods that Rome was about to fall. That it was a comet. It is said that there were points of light where the heavens opened up and shone through. There have been many explanations for it. But it was God showing that this was His son, and giving us a way to know. There are many people who say that these things are impossible, and all things are impossible without faith. But when one believes, all things are possible.

I cannot doubt it, for I saw it with my own eyes. All I know is that when it came together, that the light was great enough to cast shadows. And it was strong enough that you could not sit and stare at it for any length of time. It was something that had never in the known memory of man ever occurred before.
Why am I to judge God’s way of doing things? The wise men, it is said that there was possibly a fourth. It is said that each of the wise men followed one of the stars, and at this point they met… that they came from very distant lands, yes, four different points of origin… the tales grow longer with each telling. But they followed the stars that were growing together, for they knew what would occur. And they had been watching for hundreds and hundreds of years for this very happening. When that star became one, it was seen… everywhere.”
And now let us take a serious look at possibilities of for what the Star of Bethlehem might have been, if it was in fact, not some kind of inter-dimensional event, for here are several excellent theories as to the celestial signs in the heavens.

If we add 15 years with 14 years, we come up with 29 years from the Year 0. If Jesus was born in let’s say 5 B.C.E., that means he was at least 35 when he became his ministry. If he was born in 6 or 7 B.C.E., then he would have been 37 years old when he began teaching. Luke tells us that his ministry lasted three years, making him around 40 at the crucifixion. This actually makes far more sense on multiple levels; not only in regard to his extensive training, but also because we read in John 8:57 of those listening to Jesus who say to him: “You are not yet fifty years old, and have You seen Abraham?”
